Eating Contests (Family Tent - Demonstration Area)

 

9th Annual Sam Sato Saimin Eating Contest

2 pm sign up to enter at the Demonstration Area – children and adult divisions, first six entries for each division accepted. Contest begins at 4:00 pm.  The fastest eater wins.  Winners receive Sam Sato gift certificates.  All contestants win the saimin eating contest bowl.

 

6th Annual Iwamoto Natto Factory Eating Contest

2 pm sign up to enter at the Demonstration Area – children and adult divisions, first six entries for each division accepted.  Contest begins at 4:20 pm.  The fastest eater wins.  Winners receive Iwamoto natto and a bag of rice.  All contestants win the natto eating contest bowl.

 

Hanafuda Contest (Open Pavilion)

Inaugural Hanafuda Tournament

3:00pm Registration, beginner and advanced divisions, first sixteen entries accepted for each division. Tournament begins at 4pm.  Each contestant earns a consolation prize and additional prizes are awarded to each winner that advances to the next round.  First place winners for each division receive a bag of rice and $50 gift certificate.

 

Art Contests (Pilina Building)

 

Manga and Art Contest (See entry criteria and all entries must have entry form attached)1 pm -2:30 pm entries received at the Manga & Art Exhibit in the Pilina Building.  Manga and Traditional art divisions open for 3rd through 12th graders.  3pm judging begins and 4pm winners announced at exhibit area. Winners receive cash, ribbons and certificates.

Cosplay Costume & Video-Gaming Contests

Hallway Cosplay Contest Information:

2pm to 5pm registration, 5:45 pm votes tallied, 6:00 pm winner announced on entertainment stage.
Contestants get their picture taken at registration and enter the photo to gather votes from passport participants who vote for their favorite character.  The contestant with the most votes by 5:45 pm wins the competition.  The earlier the cosplay picture is displayed, the better the chance at winning.  Prizes include Omochaya gifts and cash.

 

Showcase Cosplay Contest Information:

2pm to 5pm registration, 5:45 meet in back of entertainment stage, 6:10 showcase contest begins.
To register, contestants write a brief character introduction of their cosplay.  The emcee will read the character introductions as contestants showcase their cosplay on stage.  A panel of 5 judges determines the winners.  Cosplayers will be judged on character choice, costume & character details, audience appeal, and stage presence.  Prizes include Omochaya gifts and cash.

 

Cosplay Costume Contest Rules:

1)         No metal props, cardboard or plastic is acceptable.

2)         All ages may enter, however, those under the age of 18 must have their parent’s written permission.

3)         Students must adhere to their schools respective dress codes.

4)         Revealing clothing will not be allowed.

 

Video-Gaming Tournament:  Super Smash Brothers Brawl
2 pm to 3 pm registration.  Tournament begins at 3:30pm and is limited to forty participants.  Participants must be present & ready when it is their turn; there will be a 2-minute wait-time before the player is disqualified.  Prizes include Omochaya gifts and cash.
